Salt

We were the salt and light.

We were a simple crowd all along;

Grinding in the glow.

But then you saddled the light,

And when I came along

From what I saw you were gone.

You were riding all alone;

Putting miles to bone.

If it's on fire but won't burn,

Can it feel the flame?

Can you stay on fire and go on living?

Lately I've been thinking,

This salt inside our veins -

Is just a kind of forgiving.

You gave it all away.
